NANNY SCREENING

We cannot appoint a nanny in a sudden. It needs thinking, consultation, discussion and at last it has to turn as a firm decision because you are hiring somebody a stranger to take care of your child/children in your absence. Of course, you will have anxiety and naturally it leads to lot of thinking and at last you come into a proper decision.

APPROACH AN AGENCY

Searching for a nanny, by connecting with an agency makes your task easier and fruitful. It is good to tell others related that you are in need of a nanny, because it may lead to good result of your search. Advertising and mailing especially to gymboree, friendly coffee shop, community centre, local church news board etc are beneficial. Interviewing nanny after nanny reaches you to the nanny of your choice. Sending mail with your details to the nannies or agency also derives good result.

Agencies have got pre-interviewed nannies and the agencies know the particular nanny well and all whereabouts of him/her. The agency takes time to understand the choice of the customer and provides a suitable nanny. Agency helps the customer to understand the minimum salary, benefits, insurances, local tax codes and legal proceedings regarding a nanny. Some agencies promise for an alternative nanny when the appointed nanny is unable to do the duties for some time due to any reason.

NANNY, ‘AU PAIR’

It (pronounced as “o pear”) is called a live-in nanny from another country. This kind of nannies can help your children to experience the culture and language of another country. They are less expensive and work well with the families. Most of these ‘au pair’ nannies are appointed through an agency and it makes much easier and reliable for the customer to choose the better one, because the agency will help you to get pre-screened detailed applications, through interview to understand better your needs and family life style.

NANNY, EXAMINING THE PAST

You are anxious about the child’s/children’s future, because you are entrusting your child to a stranger. So, it is better to know about the past history of the nanny. It is better to enquire to his/her previous employer with the questions like, when did the nanny work, what did she/he do, was it satisfactory, what was his/her duties, why did she/he leave? Etc. Check the other part of the nanny’s history like driving record, criminal record, sex offender registries, current and past address and cell numbers, credit reports with the agency.

NANNY SCREENING

Interview is an important thing before appointing a nanny. It helps the customer to get an insight into who these nannies are, how truthful they are, whether their personality is adjustable with you and especially with your child. It would be better if your child/children also present during the interview so that you can watch their interaction with the nanny. It is better for the nanny, if you are interviewed at the beginning of the interview session.
The questions can be asked regarding the place of the training, the agency of recruitment, why do you want to be a nanny and why you does not work in other types of job, what do you like least as a nanny, a small description about the nanny’s family, parents and children, the problem which the nanny faced with the past employer and how he/she solved it, what the children like the best in the nanny, how do the nanny handle the emotional problems, what is a nanny’s role in a child’s out door activities, what is the primary responsibility to a child of this age, the opinion about television watching, what is daily routine and the flexibility.

Be open and make sure about the other extra duties which you want the nanny to do. The unusual duty of a nanny includes laundry, cleaning the kitchen, taking the child to other activities and classes etc. and in some homes, the nanny will have to attend other additional household duties. Enquire about the available hours of a nanny for the work, availability for the overtime work, the obligations and medical issues that prevent the nanny to do his/her duties, the range of salary and other benefits which the nanny expect.

NANNY, PAYMENT

You are liable to pay your appointed nanny legally, figuring out his/her experience, education, other activities etc. Many people use payroll service to pay their nannies. The payroll service will charge you a fee more than what you pay the nanny. This will handle all the details calculating correctly the taxes owed, the yearly information about the nanny because the payroll service knows well about the rules and regulations regarding taxes and will be helpful to you. The payroll service also provide suitable service like direct deposit, benefit etc.

CONCLUSION

It is clear that screening of a nanny is much helpful for a customer who is in search of a suitable nanny. It helps the customer to take a suitable decision and to select an apt choice of his/her own.
